Is the Holy Spirit our Spirit of prayer?
Message

In Zechariah 12:10, the Holy Spirit is identified as "a spirit of grace and supplication," poured out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. As the Spirit of supplication, He is our Spirit of prayer, the Helper Jesus promised to send [John 14:16], Who lives in us, if we are Gods children [John 14:17]. As our Spirit of prayer, He intercedes for us when we dont know what to ask [Romans 8:26]. Through Christ we have access to the Father by one Spirit [Ephesians 3:18]; He is our Spirit of prayer. Understanding that makes Jesus teaching all the more precious, when He promised, according to the very character and nature of God our Father, "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" [Luke 11:13] This teaching comes as reinforcement and encouragement to Jesus admonition that we are to ask, seek and knock, anticipating that "everyone who asks receives" [Matthew 7:8]. Our Father not only wants to hear and answer, not only desires to give good gifts beyond anything we can anticipate, but He is willing to give His Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. Have we asked for the Spirit of supplication, the Spirit of prayer, to come and strengthen our prayer life? To give us His discernment for our prayers? To pray through us when we dont know what to ask?
Pray with me now -- Father, may Your Spirit of supplication lead and inspire our prayers. In Jesus name, amen.
