How much more will our Father give?

Message #4 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"
Asking - God’s Way"

by Kaye Johns

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught us: "Ask and it will be given to you...For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." [Matthew 7:7-8]

Seeking suggests effort--spending time in prayer, searching Scripture, desiring to have a word from the Lord. Knocking suggests not giving up, even if the door seems closed, if the answer is delayed.

Jesus went on to help us understand how much our heavenly Father is willing to give. He added: "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" [Matthew 7:9-11]

It’s a beautiful assurance, given to God’s children. Jesus had just introduced the idea of God as our Father. With these verses, He shows us our Father’s heart, One Who wants to give good gifts when we ask, to give us much more than any earthly father could ever give. His heart is a generous heart that waits to be asked.

Pray with me now -- Holy Father, it is amazing to us that we can be Your children, that we can find You waiting to give what we need, and more. How we thank you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
