When we pray, do we ask in faith?

Message #14 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"
Asking - God’s Way"

by Kaye Johns

Jesus taught us to ask for our daily needs when we pray [Matthew 6:11], and as we do, what’s in our heart is a lot more important than the words we use.

God wants us to have faith [Hebrews 11:6], to believe without wavering. James said: "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does." [James 1:5-6]

We must have faith that God can answer--that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask [Ephesians 3:20]. We must have faith that He will answer [Matthew 7:7-9] and that He wants to answer [Matthew 7:11] because He loves us perfectly.

That kind of faith comes from knowing and experiencing God. Not head knowledge, but heart knowledge--from a personal relationship with Him in which we sense the guidance of His Holy Spirit as we study His Word, in which we see His answers to our prayers.

Some say faith is like a muscle--the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. Wouldn’t it be awful to be in the midst of a crisis, and not have the muscle to support our prayers?

Pray with me now -- Lord, help us develop our faith through experience with You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
