Confessing Christ
Message #10 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series "Confession"
"Confession" means agreeing with God, and in the context of sin in our lives, its agreeing with God that sin is wrong and we must be forgiven. Were taught to name our sins, all our sins, and ask for His forgiveness. When we do, He is faithful and just to forgive. [1 John 1:9] There is another kind of confession or agreement with God -- to simply acknowledge the truth of what He has said. In Matthew 10 He said: "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven." [Matt. 10:32] It was important enough for Him to repeat in Matthew 11: "Everyone therefore who shall confess Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven." [Matt. 11:32] Were to confess, to acknowledge the truth that Peter confessed: "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." [Matt. 16:16] But its not just a one-time confession; it is a continued acknowledgment. Every time we call on His name, we confess that He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. It is our confession of Him as Christ that frees His Holy Spirit to live in us, empowering us for the life He wants to live through us. He is our victory. Have you done that? Come to a moment when you have confessed Christ? Acknowledged, after thinking it through, that He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God? That you are a sinner in need of His saving grace? Can you imagine a moment when He might deny you before His Father?
If so, you may want to pray with me now -- Lord Jesus, I confess that You are the Son of the Living God Who died for my sins. I know Im a sinner. I ask for forgiveness and the strength to turn away from my sins. Amen.
