Do we worship God as He is,
or as we want Him to be?

If were to worship in truth, as Jesus taught the Samaritan woman at the well, we must worship God as He is. Jesus said, "...a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.... God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." [John 4:21-24, emphasis added] If we are not consistently reading through the entire Word of God, it is easy to latch onto partial truth. God is a God of love and mercy and patience and kindness. He is a God of blessing and provision, of guidance and wisdom. I find it easy to sit in my favorite chair for a morning quiet time, sipping coffee and underlining verses of comfort and love. But if thats all we see of Who God is, its not knowing the full truth of Who He is, and we cannot worship Him in truth as He commands. He is the same yesterday, today and forever [Hebrews 13:8]--and that means He is the God of the Old Testament as well as the New. The God of curses [Deuteronomy 28:15], as well as blessings. The Lord Who can and will say to some, "I never knew you." [Matthew 7:23] What a risk we take when we fail to see all of Who He is.
Pray with me now -- Father, help us not to fear the full truth of Who You are, but to do our best to understand as much of it as we can, in Jesus name, amen.
