Why was it so significant when Jesus
said we will worship the Father?

Message #6 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Worship in Prayer"

by Kaye Johns

Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well, "...a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth...." [John 4:21] The word Father is significant, because throughout the Old Testament, God’s people were never called His children. This was a whole new concept.

Worship in spirit and in truth must be worship as God’s children, for we have no other access to the throne of heaven [John 3:3, 14:6]. Worship in truth can only be in the "Spirit of Sonship," described in Romans 8, "...but you received the Spirit of Sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children." [Romans 8:15-16]

We worship in the spirit of the Father’s adopted children. We can call Him "Abba," the most intimate term for father--"daddy," "dad," "papa." This is only possible when we have received Jesus as Savior and Lord of our lives.

Have you come to a moment in your life when you have made a conscious decision to receive Christ--not because your Mom and Dad are Christians, not because you go to church, but because you personally believe?

If not, you may want to pray with me now -- Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, Who died for my sins. I receive You as Savior and Lord of my life. I ask You to forgive my sins and to help me turn away from them in Your strength. Amen.
