What was Jesus first teaching on prayer?
Message
#3 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
Jesus first taught about prayer when He taught the Samaritan woman at the well about worship. She was confused about where one should worship--"Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." [John 4:20]Jesus answered, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. ...when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth...." [John 4:22-23]Jesus was explaining an incredible truth that she--and we--would be able worship the Lord anywhere, any time. She could not yet understand that through His death, His sacrifice for our sins, the veil in the temple would be torn from top to bottom, and no longer would the holy of holies be reserved for one priest, once a year. No longer would Gods people have to go to the mountain or the temple to worship Him. Through Christ, believers would be able to worship by entering the very throne room of heaven, at any place, at any time. We are free to worship the Lord in Spirit, because God is Spirit. He is omnipresent, and as such, He can be worshiped everywhere--not just on Sunday in the church. Wherever we are, at any moment of our lives, we can worship Him through Christ, our Savior. The question is--do we?
Pray with me now -- Lord, help us worship You not just at any place, at any time, but every place, every time. In Jesus name, amen.
