Why do you think the Lord
wants us to worship Him?

Message #18 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Worship in Prayer"

by Kaye Johns

Several years ago, when I was exhausted and feeling overwhelmed, I found myself in the book of Isaiah, uplifted with verses such as: "Who has done such mighty deeds, directing the affairs of generations of mankind as they march by? It is I, the Lord, the first and last; I alone am he." [Isaiah 41:4, TLB]

And, "There is no other God; there never was and never will be. I am the Lord, and there is no other Savior. ...From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can oppose what I do." [Isaiah 43:10-11,13; TLB]

To this day when I’m feeling overwhelmed or discouraged, I reach for Isaiah. Nothing lifts my spirit more than contemplating the might and majesty of the Lord. It is that sense of worship and adoration that helps focus me on Him instead of the circumstances of life. I need the sense of His bigness, His ability to keep everything under His control.

Do you suppose that’s why the Lord wants us to worship Him, to make time in our daily prayer lives to pause and contemplate just Who He is? In Isaiah the Lord tells us, "Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand." [Isaiah 41:10, TLB] It gives us courage to acknowledge Whose hand we’re holding.

Pray with me now -- Lord, help us to draw comfort and courage come from worshiping You, the God we love and serve, in Jesus’ name, amen.
