Do we need a personal place
for prayer and worship?

Message #17 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Worship in Prayer"

by Kaye Johns

Moses felt it was important to have a personal place for prayer. In Exodus 34 we’re told, "Moses always erected the sacred tent (the ‘Tent for Meeting with God,’ he called it) far outside camp, and everyone who wanted to consult with Jehovah went out there." [Exodus 34:7, TLB]

While it’s true that today we are free to worship and pray at any time, in any place, it’s also true that we need a sacred tent of our own, a place to consult with Jehovah, a place for worship and prayer. We call it our quiet time.

We approach our tent of prayer in humility, as Moses did. Moses, who was known as the humblest man on earth [Numbers 12:4, TLB]. He exalted the Lord in his worship of Psalm 90: "Lord, through all the generations you have been our home! Before the mountains were created, before the earth was formed, you are God without beginning or end. You speak, and man turns back to dust. A thousand years are but as yesterday to you! They are like a single hour! We glide along the tides of time as swiftly as a racing river, and vanish quickly as a dream." [Psalm 90:1-5, TLB]

The closer we grow to the Lord, the more we realize how great our Lord is, and how insignificant we are in comparison. We express that truth through our worship.

Pray with me now -- Lord, help us to live with a growing awareness of Your greatness, Your majesty. May we have words to express our worship, in Jesus’ name, amen.
