Have the world and its desires faded
from our lives?

Message #15 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Spiritual Intimacy"

by Kaye Johns

Though it doesn’t happen instantly, over time God’s children who live in spiritual intimacy no longer find satisfaction in the world or its desires.

The apostle John, in 1 John, puts it this way: "...everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away...." [1 John 2:16-17]

This is a gradual process, and it’s not a struggle as we draw close to the Lord. Things of the world, of our culture today--pride, ambition, success by the world’s standards--grow less important as He grows more important. We’re not forced to give up worldly desires; we choose to, because our values change. Different things become important to us.

When we’re on the outside looking in, it’s hard to understand. We can’t explain it, we have to experience it. We have to be willing to accept His free gift of salvation, and then be willing to make ourselves available to know Him, to love Him and to live in spiritual intimacy with Him.

The Lord is the change agent. When we pray, and give Him our lives and ask Him to reveal Himself to us, so that we can know Him and love Him, He’ll bring us along as quickly, or as slowly, as we like.

Pray with me now--Lord, we’re often afraid of change, especially when we’re the ones who are changing. Teach us to trust You, in Jesus name. Amen.
