What kind of relationship does our
Lord want with us?

Message #1 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Abiding in the Vine"

by Kaye Johns

The Lord Jesus made it clear--He wants an abiding love relationship with us [John 15:9]. It’s a relationship that begins when we are born into the kingdom of God, and the Holy Spirit, Who is one with the Father and one with the Son, comes to indwell us. Through Him, we abide in Christ. Through Him, we discover the joy of personal intimacy with our Lord, which comes from our prayer life--not all at once, but gradually, over time. It’s a relationship we must actively seek.

Most of us don’t understand this truth when we first become Christians. It took me many years to realize that prayer is meant to be the outflow of a daily, personal relationship with the Lord. It's a dynamic, multi-faceted relationship that gradually unfolds over the years.

Jesus’ disciples knew Him first-hand as teacher, but He also told them that He is our Shepherd. Disciples must come as sheep, trusting in His care. But an even more telling illustration is found in John 15, where Jesus says, "I am the vine, and you are the branches." [John 15:5] It’s an analogy that He doesn’t just casually mention, but explains fully, as a vivid picture of what it means to be completely yielded and absolutely dependent upon Him. He wants nothing less.

Pray with me now--Precious Lord, to know you as the True Vine, we want to come as branches, emptied of self and completely dependent upon You. Help us, for we ask in Your name. Amen
