Do We Want to Pray Powerful Prayers?
Message

Of course we do. We want to pray prayers that we know God will answer--thats what makes them powerful. We want to know that the time we spend in prayer is honoring to God and that our prayers make a difference, an eternal difference, in someones life. Anyone who is a Christian can pray that way. Let me give you an example. The Apostle John says, "...if we ask anything according to [Gods] will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him." [1 John 5:14-15] Thats powerful prayer--knowing that we have what we asked, even as we pray. But first, we have to pray according to Gods will. How do we do that? When a friend needs a job, can we know Gods will? Whether God is waiting for a specific request [James 4:2] or is building our friends character or has him under discipline? The sure way to release Gods power in our friends life is to pray something from Scripture that we know is Gods will, something that will have a lasting effect on our friends life: "Lord, help him seek first Your kingdom and righteousness, for if he does, You have promised to take care of his needs." [Matt. 6:33] Thats a prayer that we can know is Gods will. Its a prayer we can be certain He will answer--for our friends eternal good and His glory.
Pray with me now -- Father, teach us to pray powerful prayers, in Jesus name. Amen.
