Is the Spirit of Jesus evident in our lives?

Message #1 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Asking for the Spirit of Jesus"

by Kaye Johns

We know that, as Christians, we have received the indwelling Holy Spirit, Who is the gift of God [Acts 2:38], and when we receive God’s Spirit, we receive all of Him--not just part of Him.

God’s Spirit is identified in Scripture by more than 100 names, titles and descriptions, each of which reveals part of His nature, His attributes, His character--Who He is, and the role He is to play in our lives. Among those names are Spirit of Jesus [Acts 6:7], Spirit of Christ [Rom. 8:9; 1 Pet. 1:11], Spirit of Jesus Christ [Phil. 1:19] and Spirit of [God’s] Son [Gal. 4:6]. Knowing this, and understanding that God gives His Spirit without limit [John 3:34]--we must ask ourselves, is Christ’s life apparent in us?

Jesus taught that He would come and live in us [John 14:20; 17:22-23], and Paul declared that Christ in us is the hope of glory [Col. 1:27]. We know we are the temple of the Holy Spirit [1 Cor. 6:19], the branch of the True Vine which abides in Christ and in whom Christ abides [John 15:5], and that we have been crucified with Christ--that we no longer live, but Christ lives in us [Gal. 2:20].

Can people tell? Can we? The Spirit-filled life [Eph. 5:18] is the Christ-filled life, controlled by the mind of Christ [Phil. 2:5, NKJV]. Is it so, in us? If not, shouldn’t it be a matter for prayer? Doesn’t it mean that we have somehow quenched Christ’s life in us [1 Thes. 5:19]?

Pray with me now -- Father, it isn’t enough to have Your Spirit--we want Him to live in us fully, as the Spirit of Jesus. Show us the way, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
