Are we enjoying fellowship with the Spirit?

Message #15 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Asking for the Spirit's Life"

by Kaye Johns

In Philippians 2 Paul tells us to be encouraged through our fellowship with the Spirit [Phil. 2:1].

Such fellowship, in the sense of spiritual intimacy, would be encouraging. Is that our daily experience--to know the reality of His life within us? We have been given the Holy Spirit to live within us [John 14:16-17], but are we aware of His presence? Is He real and personal enough for fellowship?

Our fellowship with the Spirit can be tangibly measured: by the reality of regular answers to prayer, by evidence of fruit borne through our relationships with others, and by the clarity with which we are able to discern His voice. It doesn’t happen overnight, but these things do happen as we learn to surrender our lives to His.

The Holy Spirit, Who indwells us, is the Spirit of Prayer [Zech. 10:12]--if we enjoy His fellowship, will He not lead us to pray those prayers which will be answered? He is the Spirit of Life, the life of the Vine Who lives in us to bear His fruit--if we enjoy His fellowship, will we not see such fruit? He is the Spirit of Jesus, and Jesus promised His sheep would hear and recognize His voice [John 10:4] --if we enjoy His fellowship, will we not know His voice?

It happens as we let go of self to live the Spirit-filled life [Eph. 5:18]. We can be encouraged by His fellowship, if we will.

Pray with me now -- Father, give us the desire to fellowship with Your Spirit. Fill us afresh, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
