Are we anointed of God?

Message #11 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Asking for the Spirit's Life"

by Kaye Johns

We’re anointed of God if we are born again, for the anointing is the Holy Spirit. The Apostle John writes, "As for you [meaning believers], the anointing you received from him remains [abides] in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you...his anointing teaches you about all things...." [1 John 2:27] That’s from the NIV. I like what The Living Bible says: "But you have received the Holy Spirit and he lives within you, in your hearts, so that you don’t need anyone to teach you what is right--for he teaches you all things, and he is the truth."

The Holy Spirit is the anointing Who lives within us to teach us all things. Do we give Him the chance? He won’t teach us what we don’t want to know, what we don’t want to hear. He doesn’t force Himself on us, He waits to be asked. If His teaching were automatic, none of us would make a mistake--assuming we would listen and follow His guidance--for He would be teaching us what is right in every circumstance, in all things.

God wants us to acknowledge our dependence on Him. That’s one reason we’re to ask for what we need, even though He knows what we need before we ask [Matthew 6:8]. We need the anointing of the Spirit to be real in us, to teach us all things. And so we ask.

Pray with me now -- Father, may the anointing of Your Spirit teach us what we need to know. May we listen and obey, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
