Do we know the Spirit of Jesus?

Message #4 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Asking
for the Spirit's Presence"

by Kaye Johns

The Holy Spirit is named in Scripture as the Spirit of Jesus [Acts 16:7], the Spirit of Christ [Rom. 8:9] and the Spirit of Jesus Christ [Phil. 1:19]. He is the third person of the Trinity, but He is also One with our Savior.

God the Father allowed a few people in the Old Testament to know Him in a personal way. In the New Testament age Jesus walked with His disciples. But from Pentecost on, it has been the Holy Spirit Who has been with us--more intimately than either the Father or the Son, because the Spirit lives within us [Rom. 8:11].

Because there is but one living God manifested three ways, we are directly connected to the Father and the Son through the Spirit [1 Cor. 6:17; Eph. 2:18]. He is the Holy Spirit, our Helper; He is the Spirit of our Father, and the Spirit of Jesus as well.

In Acts 16 the Spirit is identified as the Spirit of Jesus. Looking at the context, we find Paul and his companions traveling. "When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not let them." [Acts 16:7]

Jesus tells us to ask for the Spirit [Luke 11:13]; we can ask specifically: "Father, give me today the Spirit of Jesus, that He may protect me from wrong choices and keep me in the center of Your will."

Pray with me now -- Father, that is our prayer. On our own, we don’t always go the right way. Send the Spirit of Jesus, in His name, amen.
