Has the Spirit of Life set us free?

He has, if we have allowed it. Paul tells us in Romans 6 that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Life who has set us free from the law of sin and death [Rom. 8:2] through a new way [Rom. 7:6]--the way of mercy and grace and the strength of His life in us. We are given the Spirit of Life when we are saved, and through Him we are new creations in Christ [2 Cor. 5:17], able to put off the old self and put on the new [Eph. 4:22-24], able to live by the Spirit, so that we will not gratify the desires of our old, sinful nature [Gal. 5:16]. We are Christians who have died to sin. We were crucified with Christ, buried with Him--in order that we may live a new life. [Rom. 6:2-4] Paul said we are to count ourselves dead to sin but alive in Christ, that sin will no longer reign in our lives [Rom. 6:11-12]. He said we have been set free from sin, to become slaves to righteousness, to God and to His holiness [Romans 6:18-22]. Is it so in our lives? Or, as we find ourselves struggling to put off the old self and put on the new, should we not ask the Father to give us the Spirit of Life? Should we not yield to His presence in us, that we may live in His victory?
Pray with me now -- Father, send the Spirit of Life into our hearts anew and afresh today. May we experience His victory over sin and self, for we ask in Jesus name, amen.
