Is the Holy Spirit the Breath of
God in us?

Message #11 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Asking
for the Spirit's Presence"

by Kaye Johns

God puts His New Spirit in us, and as the Breath of Life He sustains us. He is not only the Breath of Life, but He is the very Breath of God Who indwells us. Job identified God’s Spirit as the Breath of God, when he said: "...as long as I have the breath of God in my nostrils...I will not deny my integrity. I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live." [Job 27:3-6]

We have the Holy Spirit living within us from the moment we are saved, but we do not always experience the fullness of His presence. Jesus taught us to ask for the Spirit--that we might experience Him in greater measure than we have ever known. And He assured us that our Father desires to give Him. [Luke 11:13]

Should we not ask for the Breath of God--to be our strength, to help us maintain our integrity, to make the right choices that keep our hearts undivided and devoted to Him? When we have the sense that our character is being tested, when we face choices that we alone must make--it is the Breath of God who provides His strength that we may choose rightly. He breathes His strength into us, that we might become the people He intends us to be.

Pray with me now -- Father, may the Breath of God be the strength, the integrity, the righteousness of our lives today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
