Are we affirming Scripture in our prayers?
Message
#8 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
In John 17 when Jesus prayed for His disciples, His first request was for their protection, because He was going to leave them and they would have to face the world without Him. He then prayed, "While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled." [John 17:11-12] As we pray through this prayer, we find this verse reassuring. While Jesus was here on earth, He kept His disciples safe--except for Judas, so that Scripture would be fulfilled. He protected them physically, and spiritually by teaching them the truth. Jesus is still today keeping His disciples safe. We affirm this as we pray: "Lord Jesus, thank You that You are as present with us today as You were with Your disciples so long ago, that Your Spirit is here to indwell us and protect us. "And we thank You that You are today at the right hand of God interceding for us, protecting us through Your prayers. We know that the world is a dark and dangerous place, yet in Your strength and under the protection of Your prayers, we are free to be the salt and light You have called us to be." Such positive affirmations in our prayers do indeed strengthen and uplift us, even as we pray.
Pray with me now -- Father, we know that You hear Jesuss prayers on our behalf, and we thank You in His name, amen.
