Are we glorifying the Lord Jesus?

Message #6 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Praying John 17"

by Kaye Johns

When we pray the Scripture back to God, it not only helps us to pray according to His will, but it slows us down as we consider what we have read and how to turn it into a prayer. We’re praying through John 17, which is Jesus’s prayer for His disciples. In verse 9 He had just prayed, "I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours." [John 17:9]

Now, in verse 10 He emphasizes again, "[Father], all I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them." [John 17:10] As we intercede for others verse by verse through this passage, we can pray these words as an affirmation: "Father, these people I’m praying for are yours, and that means we all belong to Jesus, as well. It is amazing to me that glory can come to Him through us."

Or, we can expand on the meaning of these verses as the Spirit leads: "Father, since we belong to You, and to Jesus, I ask You to help us live like it. May we give up all right to ourselves, to our will, to our desires and become the disciples, the children, the servants that You want us to be. May we never touch Your glory, but may all that we think, all that we say, all that we do glorify our Lord and Savior."

Pray with me now -- Father, that is our prayer, for ourselves and for those we love, offered in our Savior’s name. Amen.
