How can Scripture become personal prayer?
Message
#5 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
Scripture, such as John 17, quickly becomes our personal prayer when we pray it back to the Father; each verse seems to suggest its own prayer. As we come to verse 9, we read, "I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours." [John 17:9] We pray that verse back to the Lord: "Father, Im praying for these in my family and on my prayer list who are Your children, those You have given to Jesus as His own." But what strikes us as we pray this verse is the overwhelming truth that Jesus is still today praying for His own. How does that make us feel? Do we really consider what it means, that Jesus is at this moment sitting at the right hand of God, interceding for us [Rom. 8:34], for those who are sons of God, led by the Spirit of God [Rom. 8:14]? He always lives to intercede for those who come to God through Him [Heb. 7:25]. And so our prayer continues with an exaltation: "Lord Jesus, thank You for praying for us those many years ago. Thank You for this incredible truth that You are now, at this minute, interceding for each one of us. May we live every moment of this day confident that we are in Your prayers, that we have been given to You, that we belong to the Father."
Pray with me now -- Father, thank You for hearing Jesuss prayers for us, which are much greater than our own. In His name, amen.
