How well do we know the Lord?

Message #7 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Jesus' Teaching on Prayer"

by Kaye Johns

That is a question we might ask ourselves as we come daily to our time of prayer. When Jesus was teaching His disciples about prayer, He gave them a pattern to follow. It began, "Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name." [Matthew 6:9, KJV]

In Biblical times a person’s name represented his nature, his character, the facets of his personality. So it is with the names of God. Throughout Scripture there are hundreds of names, titles and descriptions of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit--and each one reveals something of Who He is and Who He desires to be for us at any given moment of our lives.

As we seek to live in personal relationship with our Lord, we experience many different aspects of His nature. We come to know Him as our Provider when unexpected financial troubles come, as our Resting Place in the midst of stress, as our Healer when we have been ill. Our opening prayer of worship becomes an acknowledgment of that growing relationship, an expression of adoration and love that pours from grateful hearts. The better we know Him, the more our worship means--to Him and to us. We don’t tell Him that we worship and adore Him, we share with Him why we worship and adore Him. Are we hallowing God’s name from personal experience?

Pray with me now -- Father God, may we be those who know You so well we can hallow Your name in a personal way, in Jesus’s name, amen.
