Do we pray daily for deliverance?
Message

Jesus took Satan seriously. In His model prayer, when Jesus taught the basics of beginning prayer to His disciples, He taught us to pray for deliverance from Satan. The King James translation says, "Deliver us from evil," but the word for "evil" is not a neutral word, it is masculine. More accurate is "deliver us from the evil one," and that means Satan. Unlike many today, Jesus took Satan seriously. One of the devils biggest deceptions is that he does not exist. Because many in the body of Christ do not consider him a threat, they are especially at risk of falling under his influence. Jesus knew that. He not only taught His disciples to pray daily for deliverance from the evil one, but He prayed it for us Himself in John 17: "My prayer is not that you take them out of this world but that you protect them from the evil one." [John 17:15] Even as Christians, we live in a dark world. This earth is Satans domain. Jesus called him the prince of this world [John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11]. Satan is here, roaming the world like a roaring lion [1 Peter 5:8]. He is the father of lies [John 8:44], the deceiver [Revelation 20:7-8,10], the tempter [Genesis 3:13, Matthew 4:1-11], our accuser [Revelation 12:10-11], a thief [Mark 4:14-15], a murderer [John 8:44] and destroyer [Revelation 9:11]. He cant be everywhere at once, but he commands a host of evil spirits. Jesus took Satan seriously and prayed for our protection. So should we.
Pray with me now -- Father, we ask you to deliver us from the evil one and every spirit under his command, in Jesus name, amen.
