None can come unless...

Message #5 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Praying for the Lost"

by Kaye Johns

Jesus said, in John 10:9, "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved." It is an analogy, of course, describing our entry into the kingdom of God. Until a person decides to go through the gate by choosing to believe that Christ died for his sins, to accept that truth and receive Christ as Savior, he’s on the outside looking in. Outside the gate is Satan’s kingdom, and the lost are a heartbeat away from spending eternity there, instead of with Jesus.

How do they get through the gate? John 10:3 tells us--"The watchman opens the gate for him." Who is the watchman? Do you remember Isaiah 62:6? "I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord give yourselves no rest...." We are the watchmen who open the gate of heaven--through Christ, in prayer.

Jesus declared that He alone is the way to eternal life; He also said in John 6, "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him;" and, "no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him." [John 6:44, 65] How does the Father draw and enable someone? He sends His Holy Spirit. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians, "For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction." [1 Thess. 1:4-5]

No matter how long it takes, our job as watchmen is to stand fast in our prayers for the lost. God will not override their free will, but our prayers will release the Spirit to work in every circumstance of their lives that they may ultimately hear and respond to His truth.

Pray with me now -- Father, help us to be Your steadfast prayer partners, allowing Your Holy Spirit to inspire our prayers for the lost, in Jesus’ name. Amen .
