Send someone as You sent Paul

Message #17 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Praying for the Lost"

by Kaye Johns

Scripture strengthens our prayers, helping us to pray according to His will. In Acts 26, where Paul recounts what Jesus said on the road to Damascus, we find a simple yet profound prayer for the lost.

We know from Paul that Jesus told him, "I am sending you to them [the Gentiles--we might say to ‘the lost’] to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me."[Acts 26:17b-18]

Our Lord, who once wept over Jerusalem, wants the lost to come to him. We pray in one accord with Jesus when we ask Him to send someone like Paul to "open the eyes" of the lost, knowing Satan has blinded their understanding. And to "turn them from darkness to light"--for they are children of darkness. And to "turn them from the power of Satan to God"--for the lost are in bondage to Satan, until our Father rescues them and brings them into the kingdom of His Son.

We agree with Jesus’ desire that someone be sent "so that they may receive forgiveness of sins"--for they must be convicted of sin and willing to repent. And "so that they will have a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Jesus"--for there is no other name by which they are saved, and that by faith and faith alone.

Simple Scripture, profound prayer.

Pray with me now -- Father, we ask You to send someone to open the eyes of those we love, to turn them from darkness to light, for we ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
