Sheltered through our prayers

Message #16 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Praying for the Lost"

by Kaye Johns

In our prayers for the lost, we should remember that Satan will do anything to keep for himself those who have not received Jesus as Savior and Lord--and that Satan is identified in Scripture as a murderer [John 8:44], destroyer [Revelation 9:11], a lion seeking someone to devour [1 Peter 5:8].

We know that as God’s children, we have only to submit ourselves to the Lord and resist Satan, and he will flee [James 3:7]. We’ve been given authority over him, in the name of Jesus [Luke 10:19] and the blood of the Lamb, through the word of our testimony [Revelation 12:11].

Satan can’t harm God’s children [1 John 5:18], unless we give him a foothold through unconfessed sin in our lives [Ephesians 4:27]. Psalm 91 tells us if we make the Most High God our dwelling, abiding in Him, He will command His angels concerning us [Psalm 91:11].

But what about the lost? They are in the dominion of darkness [Colossians 1:13]. So long as they don’t understand this, Satan has no need to worry about losing them. But as we pray for them, we must be aware that Satan is a murderer and destroyer, who will not hesitate to do whatever he can to keep someone eternally in his kingdom.

And so we pray for protection, that the Lord will send His angels in response to our prayers to fight for those who are lost, that they will be so sheltered that the devil won’t be able to find them. We pray these prayers knowing that the lost are not even aware that they need them, asking God to give us a understanding of their peril so that we might remain faithful in prayer.

Pray with me now -- Father, knowing You’ve told us to be anxious for nothing, to pray about everything, we give You our concerns for the lost, in Jesus’ name, amen.
