Moment of truth

Message #10 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Praying for the Lost"

by Kaye Johns

There are three enemies that can keep the lost out of the kingdom of God. One is the world, with its wisdom, which makes the cross seem like foolishness to the lost; the world system of affluence and success which keeps them out of touch with their need for a Savior.

And Satan is their enemy, who wants to keep the lost for himself, fighting against their belief in Jesus. But Satan doesn’t have to bother, when self is in control. Self, our sin nature, identified in Scripture as "the flesh," is capable of robbing us of salvation. We are our own worst enemy. We must remember that when we pray for the lost.

Sometimes, it’s easy to see self interfering, especially when the self-centered side of someone is evident in its ego, pride and self-reliance, or when his or her sin nature is painfully obvious. But what about the one who seems to be such a good and caring person?

It doesn’t matter--not ethics, not morals, not good deeds-- because Jesus is the only way to the Father [John 6:44], He is the way, the truth and the life [John 14:6], He is the Christ [Matthew 16:16], the Messiah Who saves us from our sins. How good a person is, isn’t the point--because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God [Romans 3:23], and those who think they’ve never sinned only fool themselves. [1 John 1:8] We pray for their moment of truth.

Pray with me now -- Father, let us consider our own hearts, and ask, have I chosen truth? Have I decided sin is wrong and separates me from You? Have I repented and received Jesus as my Lord and Savior? If the witness of Your Spirit is that this is my moment of truth, let me yield self to the cross. In Jesus’ name, amen.
