My God in Whom I Trust

Psalm 91 -- what a comforting prayer of affirmation to offer the Lord as a prayer of protection. Weve considered verse one, and the first half of verse two, "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress...." Now, the rest of the verse -- He is "my God, in whom I trust" [Psalm 91:2b]. The Hebrew word for God used here, is Elohim -- "Creator." When we think of our all-powerful Creator God, our Elohim, who simply spoke and called the universe into being, are we not overcome by His awesome power? And when we consider that from the dust of the earth He breathed life into man, creating us to live and breathe and think from a mass of trillions of cells, our minds can only exclaim with David, "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain" [Psalm 139:6]. Most incomprehensible of all is that this awesome God of Creation desired to breathe life into us that He might have us to love, and that He would give us the capacity to know and love Him in return, and the free will that gives our love meaning. This is the God Who is addressed in Psalm 91. This is the God the psalmist had known and experienced and loved in a personal way -- and thats why he could say, "...my God in Whom I trust." Our prayer for protection, then, must come from one who loves Him, and our request for others, must be that they, too, will know and love and trust Him as Creator, for He protects those who do.
Pray with me now--Elohim, You love us perfectly. You are the One in Whom we trust. Help our loved ones love and trust you even more, in Jesus name. Amen.
