My Refuge and Fortress
Message

Psalm 91 is a prayer for protection that is appropriate for us to take up every day for ourselves and our loved ones. It teaches us much about prayer, and the life were to live, if we seek the Lords protection. Last time we considered Psalm 91:1; now lets look at the first part of the second verse: "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress..." [Psalm 91:2a]. The word used here for "Lord," is Jehovah, meaning "I Am that I Am," Gods most holy and personal name, the name He gave Moses from the burning bush -- Jehovah, Yahweh [Ex. 3:14]. Jehovah is our timeless, eternal, self-existent, unchanging God who is always present. He was with us yesterday, He is here today at this moment, and He will be there tomorrow -- God with us, always with us. As Jehovah, God has identified Himself throughout Scripture as One who meets every need. He is our Provider [Gen. 22:14], our Healer [Ex. 15:26], our Shepherd [Ps. 23], our Peace [Judges 6:24] -- He is always there [Ez. 48:35]. In Psalm 91 when the author identified Him by His personal name, Jehovah, he was acknowledging the depth and intimacy of their relationship. He knew firsthand, through personal experience with God, that Jehovah was his refuge and his fortress, One Whom he could trust as he sought protection from Satan. Our prayer for ourselves and our loved ones is that we can know our Lord just as clearly and as closely, that we may trust in Jehovah for our every need, and for our complete protection.
Pray with me now--Jehovah, Yahweh, help us and those we love to experience You personally as our refuge and our fortress. We ask in the name of Jehovah-Jesus. Amen.
