Dwelling in the Most High
Message

What do you ask for, when you pray for protection from Satan for yourself or for someone else? Were told to take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God -- to pray the words and truth of the Scripture [Eph. 6:17]. One of the most beautiful prayers of protection we can offer is Psalm 91. It begins, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High..." [v.1]. "Dwell" conveys the meaning of continuing, of abiding. "Dwelling in the shelter" is sometimes translated "dwelling in the secret place..." [KJV] It refers to a covering, a hiding place, protection. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High abides in the protection of El Elyon, our Most High God. The rest of the verse reads, "...will rest in the shadow of the Almighty" [v.1]. Isnt that beautiful? El Shaddai, Almighty God, wants us close enough to Him, in such an abiding, protective relationship, that we rest in His shadow; that His shadow can fall on us. We open our prayer, acknowledging our abiding relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ, Who is One with our Father, our Most High God, our God Almighty. And our first request is for our loved ones to have that same abiding relationship, understanding that their protection depends upon it -- children protected by their Father, knowing they can rest in Him without fear. And so we turn the first verse of Psalm 91 into our personal prayer for ourselves and those we love.
Pray with me now--O Most High, help us dwell in the shelter of Your presence, to rest in Your shadow, that our prayers may be heard, in Jesus name. Amen.
