He will call upon Me

Psalm 91 is rich in meaning. Its a psalm which speaks of the Lords power and sovereignty, which pictures Him as our fortress, refuge, shield, rampart. It draws strong images of angels being given commands to guard us, and of our trampling Satan beneath our feet. Its also a psalm of tenderness, a psalm which describes the personal love relationship the Lord desires with each of His children. Were told were to dwell in Him, to abide in His presence. Were told He will rescue and protect us because we love Him. And verse 15 reads, "He will call upon me, and I will answer Him" [v.15] That simple statement defines and describes our relationship: trusting in Christ as Savior, for no one comes to the Father except through Jesus [John 14:6-7]; living the life that acknowledges and confesses sin [Is. 59:2; Ps. 66:18; 1 Jn. 1:9]; willingly asking for Gods protection, setting aside pride and self-confidence, knowing Him well enough to trust Him. We must be so close to Him that we have a discerning ear that can hear and recognize His voice [John 10:27]. Then we can be sure -- when we call upon Him, He will answer. And so our prayer is that we will be His children who recognize and confess our sins, who set aside pride and admit our dependence, who know Him well enough to trust Him, who are close enough to Him to recognize His voice when He speaks. We must ask that He will draw us into a love relationship with Him [John 7:44], that He will enable us to love Him [John 7:65] and to express that love through our obedience [John 14;15].
Pray with me now--Father, that is the cry of our hearts, for ourselves and for those we love, that when we call, You will answer. We ask in Jesus name, amen.
