How can we demonstrate the love of Christ?

Message #7 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Intercession - Our Privilege"

by Kaye Johns

Jesus demonstrated His love for us by living and dying for us, and today He expresses His love through His continual prayers. [Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25] He is our Intercessor, the model of the life that He desires we live in Him--the abiding, purposeful life of unceasing prayer. [1 Thessalonians 5:17

Is that true of our lives? Or do we often realize we’ve been too busy, too tired or too distracted to pray for the very people we love the most? Could it be that we’re not loving enough?

The apostle John is convicting when He writes of the love we should have for one another as Christians: "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. ...Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." [1 John 3:16, 20]

How do we lay down our lives for our brothers? With actions and in truth. There are many ways some of us could do that, but one of the easiest, most important and most universal things we can do is to make time for intercessory prayer on a consistent basis. Let us not love with words or tongue, but with the life-giving action of prayer. It’s not our good intentions that bring those we love before God’s throne; it’s our prayers.

Pray with me now -- Holy Father, help us to be honest with ourselves about our time, our energy, our priority for prayer, for we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
