If we’re to be effective intercessors,
what kind of life are we to live?

Message #3 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Intercession - Our Privilege"

by Kaye Johns

God has granted us an incredible privilege through our Savior Jesus Christ--the right to come before Him, as priests in the royal priesthood, on behalf of friends and loved ones in prayer. But along with the privilege, do we really take seriously the kind of life a holy priest of God is supposed to live?

The very fact that Peter identified us as part of the "holy priesthood...a royal priesthood and holy nation" [1 Peter 2:5 ,9] makes it clear that that we must be living a holy life, if we’re to be effective as intercessors. After all, God expects us to be holy as He is holy. [1 Peter 1:16] Is that possible? God never asks us to do anything that is impossible if we act in His strength. When we live the abiding life, filled with the Spirit, immediately confessing our sins, we have been and are being made holy, sanctified in Christ and being sanctified day by day through the work of His Spirit.

We have been consecrated for our role as priests in the royal priesthood, consecrated even as priests of old, with blood and holy oil [Exodus 29:21]--the blood of redemption and the oil of the Holy Spirit working in us. The blood gives us the right to be His priests, the oil--the Spirit--gives the power. God has not only given us the awesome privilege of intercession, but He has perfectly prepared us for the role.

Pray with me now -- Lord, help us to take our role as intercessors seriously. In Jesus’ name, amen.
