Can we do anything more important for
those we love than praying for them?

We are called to be priests of the Lord according to Isaiah [Isaiah 61:6] and Peter [1 Peter 2:5]. That means that we are able to enter the holy of holies, the very throne room of heaven--not only on our own behalf, but on behalf of others. Why is that so important? Why not let them go on their own?The people we love need our prayers because some of them are not people of prayer. They arent asking daily for what they need as Jesus taught. [Matthew 6:11] They arent "asking, seeking, knocking" [Matthew 7:7] or praying "without ceasing" [1 Thessalonians 5:17], or taking "everything to the Lord with thanksgiving." [Philippians 4:6]God is allowing us, in our highest privilege of all, to intercede on behalf of those we love in our role as priests in His royal priesthood. I must confess, the first time I understood my role as part of his holy priesthood, I was overcome with feelings of remorse, that I hadnt taken intercession seriously enough. Id never considered what others might miss if I werent praying, because they might not be praying for themselves. God has allowed us this glorious privilege--not just the prayer warriors who fill the chapel or prayer room in our churches, but each individual Christian. We are allowed to pray for those we love, to bring them before the Lord for His protection and provision and blessing. Do we? Do we, without fail?
Pray with me now -- Father, forgive us when we take the privilege of intercession lightly, for we ask in Jesus name, amen.
