Does God wait on our prayers?

Message #17 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Intercession - Our Privilege"

by Kaye Johns

There is a theme running through many of the classic books on prayer that makes me aware I’ve not given my prayers the same importance God does.

Many have quoted John Wesley, who said, "God does nothing except in answer to believing prayer," including Jack Hayford in his book, Prayer Is Invading the Impossible. Hayford goes on to say, "It is staggering to even begin to realize that the whole process by which God’s will is done on earth depends on an interceding church. [Prayer Is Invading the Impossible, Ballantine, May 1993]

Paul Billheimer quotes E. M. Bounds: "The prayers of God’s saints are the capital stock of heaven by which God carries on His great work upon earth." And Billheimer goes further to say, "If [the church] will not pray, God will not act...." [Destined for the Throne, Bethany House Publishers, 1975]

Dr. T. W. Hunt, co-author of Disciple’s Prayer Life, has said, "God will not work alone. Our Sovereign God directs the affairs of the universe through the intercession of His saints." [National Intercessory Prayer Conference, Nashville, TN, January 18, 1994]

Andrew Murray writes "God seeks intercessors. He will not, He cannot, take the work [of intercession] out of the hands of His church... intercession is the chief thing...the power that moves God and opens heaven." [Ministry of Intercession, Whitaker House, 1982]

So I ask you, and I ask myself--do we pray sufficiently that God can use our prayers as fully as He desires?

Pray with me now -- Father, help us see prayer from Your perspective. In Jesus’ name, amen.
