Who are called to intercede?

Message #14 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"Intercession - Our Privilege"

by Kaye Johns

Paul writes in Ephesians 6 that after we put on the spiritual armor of God, our assignment is to pray--on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests, for all of the saints. [Ephesians 6:18] But not everyone who intercedes is heard. Jesus said, "No one comes to the Father, except through me." [John 14:6]

This means more than simply ending our prayer saying "in Jesus’ name." We must believe in Him as the Son of God, Who died for our sins. This is a belief that is more than simply understanding or accepting the truth. Even the evil spirits believe in Jesus in that sense of the word "believe."

John writes "...Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." [John 1:12] To believe in this sense of the word is to trust in, to be dependent upon. It’s like believing an airplane can fly; if we want it to take us somewhere, we must do more than accept--intellectually--that it can fly. We must climb aboard. Just as we must decide to actively trust the plane and get on, so it is with our trust in Christ. We must decide to receive Him, to believe in His name, and affirm our decision in prayer.

If you’ve never come to that moment, you may want to pray with me now -- Father, I want to be Your child. I understand that Christ is Your Son, and He died on the cross for my sins. I receive Him into my life, and I believe He is my one and only Savior. I pray in His name. Amen.
