Do we pray as though we’re alive in Christ?

Message #8 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"
Intercession - Our Responsibility"

by Kaye Johns

We should. There isn’t a reason in the world for us to be weak, erratic or ineffectual pray-ers. After all, Paul tells us we have been made alive in Christ [Ephesians 2:5] and Christ always lives to intercede [Hebrews 7:25].

If we have been made alive in Christ, Who is our Intercessor, shouldn’t that be a reality in our prayer lives? Jesus is the True Vine, and we are to live as branches--emptied of self, allowing His Spirit to nourish and sustain us [John 15:1-8], to produce His lasting fruit through our lives [John 15:16]. Our role is to rest in Him, yield to Him and allow it to happen in His strength, His energy, His power, His life.

If Jesus today lives to intercede, and if His Spirit within us intercedes for us [Romans 8:26], surely it doesn’t matter how tired, how busy, how inadequate we feel about praying for others. He is in us, and He is the Spirit of Supplication [Zechariah 12:10], or Prayer.

My prayer is that the eyes of our hearts may be enlightened in order that we may know and experience our Lord’s incomparably great power for us who believe [Ephesians 1:17-19]. That incomparable power is ours for the asking, to help us in our praying. He teaches us to ask for what we need; perhaps the first thing we should ask is for an increased desire to pray in a way that is honoring to Him.

Pray with me now -- Lord, we do ask for increased desire to pray, to make intercession a priority in our lives, in Jesus’ name, amen.
