"Intercession - Our Responsibility"

Sometimes, when God touches our hearts and awakens in us the desire to intercede, it seems overwhelming, and we can’t help feeling inadequate. Sometimes, very inadequate.

But Jesus’ grace is meant to be sufficient [2 Corinthians 12:9] for whatever we need, including our prayer lives, if we will only appropriate it. Jesus lives in us through His Holy Spirit, and every day, consciously or unconsciously, we decide whether to live--and pray--in our own strength or in His.

After all, Jesus taught His disciples that more than anything else their heavenly Father wants give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him. [Luke 11:13] He was talking about the Spirit’s active presence in our lives--His strength and power waiting to be given for whatever we need.

Paul writes: "We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." [Ephesians 2:10] Prayer must be at the top of the list of good works because every other good work depends on it. He prepared us in advance to pray--and He isn’t surprised to find us with little time or energy to give. He’s waiting for us to ask for His power and grace to make us the pray-ers, intercessors, He has already prepared us to be.

Pray with me now -- Father, we want to be all that You have prepared us to be in prayer. May Your Holy Spirit of Prayer be real in our lives, in Jesus’ name, amen.
