Do we labor in prayer?

One of the best examples of laboring in prayer is the account of Moses, Aaron and Hur praying for Joshua as his troops battled the Amalekites. "Moses said to Joshua, ‘Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.’ "So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put in under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up--one on one side, one on the other--so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword." [Exodus 17:9-13] Moses’ staff represented God’s power; whenever he used it, God’s power was released. Prayer is our staff today, and it’s as tiring for us to keep lifting it as it was for Moses. And it’s as essential. It was God, through Moses’ prayers, who gave Joshua the victory. That’s what we can do for others through prayer--stand on the hill and intercede, sometimes alone, sometimes with others, who, praying for the same thing, strengthen our prayers.
Pray with me now -- Lord, help us to be as faithful as Moses in our intercession. Help us come alongside as Aaron and Hur, when we’re needed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
