Do you have a daily routine for prayer?

Message #18 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"
Intercession - Our Responsibility"

by Kaye Johns

Establishing a daily routine can greatly expand the time we have available for prayer, especially intercessory prayer.

Our morning quiet time, when time is often limited, is best spent in personal prayer--surrendering our lives to the Lord, offering prayers of worship, thanksgiving, confession, and reading the Bible devotionally.

Giving the Lord this few minutes of our undivided time and attention each day helps establish our personal relationship with Him, so that as we move through the day we can bring Him our concerns whenever our hands are busy and our minds are free. As we have worshiped, surrendered and confessed our sins, we can know there is nothing that would interfere with our fellowship, with His hearing our prayers. [Isaiah 59:2; Psalm 66:18]

We tend to be creatures of habit, and if we can link prayer throughout the day to repetitive, daily activities, we can greatly expand our time in prayer. For instance, praying as we walk or run in the morning, or as we drive to and from work. Anything that is a routine can become a routine of prayer--provided we have first had our quiet time with the Lord.

Every prayer we breathe throughout the day flows out of our relationship of spiritual intimacy which we establish and maintain day by day in moments in which we are able to make Him the center of our time and attention. We do have those moments every day, don’t we?

Pray with me now -- Father, forgive us when our prayer times are less than You want them to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.
