Do you have trouble seeing yourself
as a prayer warrior?

Message #16 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series
"
Intercession - Our Responsibility"

by Kaye Johns

The image of a prayer warrior conjures up someone who has gone through special training and equipping. It sounds like a special achievement or assignment for prayer, not something for everyone. Yet Paul was addressing the whole church in Ephesians 6--we’re all supposed to stand clothed in the armor of God as we pray, as we intercede for others.

Paul begins this passage with the admonition to "be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power" [Ephesians 6:10], making it clear from the outset that it’s God’s strength, His power, not ours. As he describes the armor--it’s Christ, it’s a description of our lives in Him, of His life in us. That’s basic and fundamental for every Christian.

We are all clothed in the full armor of His presence; He is our belt of Truth, the Way, the Truth and the Life [John 16:14]. He is our Righteousness [Jeremiah 33:15,16; 1 Corinthians 1:30], our peace [Ephesians 2:14]. He is our salvation [Luke 2:30, 3:6], and it is our faith in Him that is our shield. It is His Word that we live by and stand on and use against the evil one.

We don’t have to become special prayer warriors; we are special prayer warriors, who put on our armor as we maintain our relationship with the Lord, confessing known sin and keeping the lines of fellowship open. Then every time we pray, we are clothed anew in our armor of light, Christ Jesus Himself [Romans 13:12,14].

Pray with me now -- Father, help us to live and pray conscious our armor of light, in Jesus’ name, amen.
