Are we bearing fruit that will last?

Message #9 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series "Prayer Promises"

by Kaye Johns

Bearing fruit that will last is one of the conditions to the prayer promises of Scripture. In John 15:16 Jesus said, "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name." Then the Father will give whatever you ask in my name.

What does "then" refer to? Jesus has just said, "I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last." The fruit that will last are people who live in Christ and will never die [John 11:25-26].

To have whatever we ask in prayer, we must be those who bring people into God’s kingdom. Have we done that? Either directly, by explaining the Gospel and praying with someone-- or indirectly, through our prayers? Or, by living mature Christian lives in such a way that we have truly become the salt and light we were meant to be, bearing witness for the Lord through all that we are in Him?

Having "whatever we ask in His name" is more than what we pray and how we pray. It’s who we are and how we live and what a difference we make in the lives of others that counts--and it’s all in His name.

Pray with me now -- Lord, let all that we are, and all that we say, and all that we do bear witness of Your truth in our lives for Your kingdom and Your glory. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
