What did Paul request in prayer?
Message #19 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series "Prayer Promises"
Do you want to know how to be sure you are always praying in the perfect will of God for those you love? Its important to most of us, because we realize weve been promised when we pray in His will, we can have whatever we ask [1 John 5:14-15]. We want our prayers to be answered, and for the answers to be such that God gives what weve asked--or exceedingly, abundantly more [Ephesians 3:20].But arent there times when were just not sure? We must be careful that we are not praying more from sympathy than Gods will. Sometimes the disaster, the crisis in someones life that we would want removed is the very thing God is using to build his or her character, to mature him in his walk with Him, to prepare her for Christian ministry somewhere down the road. Its difficult for us to discern. Thats why Pauls prayers are so valuable to us. Paul didnt pray for "daily bread." He prayed for things like the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know Christ better [Ephesians 1:17], for the power to grasp the love of Christ [Ephesians 3:18], for discernment to know what is best and pure and blameless [Philippians 1:10]. When prayers like that are answered in a persons life, the daily bread needs are taken care of according to Gods will where it matters most--in support of the heart, the character, the walk with Christ.
Pray with me now -- Lord, thank You for giving us Pauls prayers. Help us to learn from them, that our prayer life might be enriched. In Jesus name, amen.
