Do we take obedience seriously?
Message #15 (of 20) from the PrayerPower radio series "Prayer Promises"
We should, because the apostle John did. He writes in First John, "...if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him." [1 John 3:21-22]Thats one of at least ten promises that we can have whatever we ask from God, and it comes with three conditions: our hearts must not condemn us, we must obey His commands, and do what please Him. Does Gods grace, His amazing grace, negate the conditions of the prayer promises? Arent our prayers heard because of Christs righteousness? We can never be obedient enough on our own to please Him, can we? Its our perspective which must change. Its true--its all of Christ, all of grace. When we are saved, we receive every spiritual blessing. Its as though God knows every prayer He wants to answer, and those answers are in a bank account that we must access. James tells us how: we must ask, and we must not ask amiss. The conditions of the prayer promises are like guidelines, like access codes that allow us to withdraw from our account all that God intends us to have. Hes given us the guidelines, and its our choice whether or not to meet them. When we do, we can have whatever we ask. Whatever we ask!
Pray with me now -- Lord, give us the desire and the strength to live obedient lives that please You, with hearts that do not condemn us. In Jesus name, amen.
